My lamp looks similar to what Jim has pictured but a poor man's version made by Lucas, I think. It has a curved mirror reflector in the back and made good spot lamps because of this.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Here is the lamp which I have which has been modified sightly for use as a spot light, at one time, by shortening of the sight tube and modification of the bulb holder. I assume that the letters stand for the maker of Joseph Lucas Ltd of Birmingham who use to be a well known automotive electrical manufacturer in the U.K.. The name still exists but I don't believe that the auto electrical parts manufacturing is done "in-house" any longer; I stand to be corrected, of course. I believe that this model of signalling lamp was used specifically by U.K./Commonwealth land forces during WW2.
