My winning bid was $525, but there was a 13% buyer's premium

That one would provide a nice shooter for some time around here. I wouldn't put enough through it to take any life out of it.

I've got #1266164, also a NM.

1266801 would have been manufactured in 1924, have a complete checkered buttplate, the bolt in the white, and a star gauge on the muzzle at 6 o'clock. So nothing adds up here. Any cartouches on the stock? So if was converted to a Sporter, then the stock would have been changed as well as the buttplate. What is the barrel date? Does the stock have a drawing number? How is the bolt numbered/lettered?

Rick, is the 072525 a sales date? July 25, 1925?

I bought this at an online auction and have not received it. I'll be better able to answer the questions when it arrives. the discription says that it has a "star crown", which isn't a bad discription of a "star gauge" barrel.
I knew that there were some "discrepancies" with this rifle. The bolt soesn't look right and the s/n came up as a NM rather than a sporter. So it would seem that either the SRS listing is wrong or someone converted a NM into a sporter. I have a request for information in with SRS.
Either way, I believe that it is probably worth the $600 that I paid for it.

The original bolt would have been a WL3. The nickle steel bolts did not come into use until 1928. This info is according to Brophy on pages 44 and 45.

Yes, but what's on it now? This could possibly be a franken gun and a nice one at that. I just sold a franken gun on GB for 1200. It had a C stock and the peep sight installed and had a J5 bolt barrel date was 10-29. People are paying crazy prices for these except Calfed!!!!
