He lied 10 years earlier in a Crown Court case where he was being tried for DSS Benefit fraud of £30+K.

He said he had won the MM and served in the Falklands War neither were true, they were just the tip of the iceberg, the Judge at the time felt sorry for him, alledged war hero and all.

As he couldn't be tried for the same crime twice he was arrested for perverting the course of justice in 2004 and rightly sentenced for 3 years in 2011 in a fresh 3 week trial.

anybody see the movie Furry ,best job i ever had.... 1969 was drafted in the army. went to mp school Augusta GA. They had too many in the mp school PEOPLE WHERE SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR. started weeding out students .i was one of the weeded out students, too many traffic violations as a civilian. either infantry go to Vietnam or be a cook? hard decision , Became a cook. 10 months later ended up in Vietnam, made spc 5 was about 30 miles from Saigon . (BEST JOB I EVER HAD. ) Both wife's knew nothing about how to cook let alone boil water.

A lot of folks do not realize how important and thankless your job in the military is. I was a Engineer battalion S-4 (Administration Logistics Officer) for 4 years. I only took the position because no one else wanted the job. It had to be one of the most important and challenging positions in my career. Running a 24/7 operations for mess, maintenance and logistics operations can be mind numbing to say the least and without excellent people who can act on their own initiative to get the job done. For without the beans, bullets and gas, all operations will very quickly stop and all eyes will turn to you. I believe it was Napoleon that said an Army travels on its stomach. I cannot count how many times our cooks were thanked by the troops for providing a hot Class A meal or hot soup in cold weather operation or hot water to shave with. Thank you for your service.

An Army marches on its stomach, a saying started by Napoleon and probably long before him.
These lads are taken for granted..............but by God, a bloody good meal is everything.

In terms of the guy who was jailed, he should have been proud of his service as a Chef absolutely NO need to inflate your Army record.
Besides that, a qualified Military Chef will always bring more money home I nearly said put(food on the table) than a guy who was an infantry soldier, who can only bring limited skills to civvy street........."in Joe Publics eyes anyway"

Fjruple, right. We have always appreciated the logistics when going up and down mountains.
The only sad thing is that we were the first ones in millennia without mules, because some smartass decided to abolish them from the military. So, that first year, we ended up carrying everything on our backs because the mechanical mules could not follow the Alpini up in the mountains.
Still, if we had food, water and ammo, it was thanks the logistics guys.

Absolutely on the button, sadly the personal ammo made way to the mortar bombs, linked ammunition and all the heavy things in life for you poor Comando, 3 Regimmento, Alpini who relied on the trusted mule. If was going to be used, man had to carry it. Great on the flat terrain but a real pain up a slope!!

They deserved a medal, never complained but even today still carry the soldiers equipment for them in the rocky terrain, jungles etc.....amazing little fellas, oh yes nearly forgot the cooks ladels too!

Sadly we have had a lot in the UK, some more challenging then others, but eventually their day arrives in court!!!
When I spoke with this guy, he said he was in my Company in 2 PARA and a Military Medal holder..............wrong on both counts!! Suffice it to say I am not on his Christmas card list

It always amazes me how many people are complete fantasists Gil. These people generally end up hanging themselves because they just can't resist "gold plating" the story...

Very sad men, who have no life and dishonour all those who have served.
We have all met one or two over the years, some just idiots, but others with a more insidious agenda.

Wasn't there one of these "imposters" caught out, in the U.K. some years ago, collecting money in the street for a non existent service charity because he was either wearing the wrong type of boots or had laced them the wrong way?

What bugs me here is the pan handlers with signs that say "Help a Veteran". I know there are some homeless veterans, but all I know have come away from the military and gotten jobs. That makes me wonder how many with those signs ever really served.
