I think I could use a good condition #4 action myself...

I think I can sweat it though...
Its lighter than my Chinese type 53 and Yugoicon m48. Its about the same weight as my Arisakaicon 99.

Learned that the mag will hold and feed 5. Plus one in the pipe. Thats a lot of firepower in that fast bolt action.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... Navy Arms Built their 45/70 rifles on used Britishicon military surplus Mark III and the Mark IV actions . They did not use the Indian 2A .308 cal. actions for the 45/70 rifles . They also used the Siamese 98 Mauser type actions for the 45/70 rifle builds . I have all 3 versions , used to live 45 miles from their Ridgefield N.J. store . they had small factory set up in Union N.J. where they made many of their conversions . I was sorry to see the N.J. store close after the death of the founder of Navy Arms Val Forgett Jr. the company was started in 1956. Their 1961 catalog listed the Enfield Mark IV sniper rifle with scope for the $44.95 plus shipping to your door !!!

The shop was in Union City, not Union. I worked part time in retail sales in the Navy Arms retail store in Ridgefield, NJ. I never got to go to the 'welding shop' in Union City.

Where you working there when Val brought in the L42A1's ? I can recall when Val was asked by his son what to with a boat load of 88 Mausers that came some where out of South Americaicon. They were rusted badly and the stocks were so rotten that the wood would fall away when you picked them up and missing bolts. Val took one over to a 10" wire wheel that was in the lower area of the store loading dock area and carded off the wood and rust and told him we are going to list them in the Shot News for $10.00 each. He sold them !

    Lets talk recoil?
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Shouldn't be that bad, not any worse surely than a #3 Ruger. I loaded 45/70 for years and could load it to perform without kicking so badly...
