    Is this legit?

    Hi,

I have someone claiming this is a L42 case of some sort. Not knowing much about these things I'd like to know more. Attachment 86315

I suggested he post here in the public forums as if anyone knows it will be this group but he has declined, which makes me wonder a little.

    Thanks.

Pretty sound and solid case though, even if it isn't correct...

Yeah it looks good case. So its not legit in any way? If his comments were only its a good case, yeah Ok but he seems to think its some sort of legit L42 trials or "special forces" case.

Don't take what I just said. There's a few here that are going to know FOR SURE! It's night time where they are and they'll answer you in a few hours. Hang on...

It was only ever transported in a "Wooden Transit Chest" with plenty of support around the action and the rest of the rifle once in transit, separated from the telescope, and ancillaries.
It would never IMHO ever be accepted at Donnington in anything other than the wooden transit chest intended for use, appropriately marked, and thats the Military way of doing things and has always been....standardisation on exceptance!!

    ssj,
It was probably foam cut for someone with a Lee Enfield who carried out competitions, and well cut to, does the job.
I have handled many L42's in transit, and have never seen a case like that, so hope that helps you.

I think the IDF had similar chests for the M14icon snipers.

Without having a clue about snipers and their accessories, in a world where the military marks everything possible to establish ownership/acceptance/traceability*, it strains credibility to the utmost that an item of that nature is NOT appropriately stamped.

There, wasn't that a polite way of saying "he's kidding himself"?

    *See Gil's example above.
