    Rear sight base

Can anyone enlighten me on this rear sight base? It has a concavity going across the back. The machine marks are clearly visible. It has no markings.

I'd have to see the underside to make sure because I'm looking for a rounded finish machining around the base where the pinion and windage knob go through. Still, I'm 98 percent positive that is either an early SA base or more likely - a WRA one.

All the Garandicon sight bases have that concave cut. Some are short and some like your are longer. The rough machining on yours makes it more apparent than a smooth one, but I have seen many like yours. Here are a couple of pics of SA bases showing the same marks.

Latigo -- I agree there is a reverse curvature at the base but it just seems the one I have is exaggerated. I did look at some other rifles and didn't notice any as curved as the one I pictured, but the ones you pictured seem very similar.

Oh well, I was hoping it was something extra special but I guess it isn't. Thanks.
