    Colonel Bill Brophy?

Korean war sniper, anyone got info on this guy? Google didn't turn up any personal info. Growing up, we had a Brophy family 4 houses down the street, they had a kid a few years older than me named Bill. Possibly named after a dad or uncle? Age would be about right...

Brophy shot in the National Matches during the pre WW2 years and promoted long range sniping during the Korean War with Winchester M70 target rifles. I believe he worked
on a special 50 cal BMG single shot rifle made from a WW2 Germanicon anti tank gun with a breech block to use in long rang sniping.

He worked for Marlin Firearms and wrote the classic book on the 1903 Springfield rifle and another book Marlin Firearms and co authored ? a book on the Krag

He was also well know among the Garandicon Collectors Association and died in the mid 1990's

I cannot find any personal info, would you know where he lived? My childhood was spent in upstate NY, town of Cobleskill, on Washington Ave. The Brophy's lived four houses down. Prolly a stretch, but an unusual name so it is possible. I also remember us kids listening to an old neighbor lady (Mrs. Golding, she was 80+ in the early 60's) two houses in the other direction, telling us numerous stories and that her father fought in the Civil War...
