The ground seems to come up real quick at the end! I take my hat off to anyone that can do that for a living.
I don't mind flying, as long as there's a landing at the other end!

Jump off a twelve foot high wall and keep your feet and knees together, that's what the landing can be like. Can't match the sickening drop from a balloon basket, takes the parachute a bit longer to deploy as there's no slipstream to catch and open it. Then...night drops...wind...rolling terrain...

I've done that about 70 times in the US, Mexico and Viet Nam.
The fun jumps are done from about 800' with full combat gear.

We had some fun jumps at Fort Bragg in the 80's when I was there. The C130 would land right on the DZ and pick up another load. Up and down we went all day. They had bleachers set up for family member who wanted to come watch the show! We did -1B training from CH46 Chinooks. Six second count seemed like ages walking off the tailgate. Lots of trees up at camp McCall too. We spent some time picking folks out of them but no serious injuries when I was there.

Yep, I've got a couple of them do it in the dark jumps.
You can usually see the ground just before you hit it - depending on how bright the stars are.
