if you keep shooting a bent barrel, it will crator for lack of better words the inside of the bend, example..if its bent to the right, the right side inside of the bend will seem to darken, and it will crator the left side ahead of the bend.
get it? right, then left?? that will make it keyhole. deformes the bullet id guess,
once this is done, the barrel is a tent stake at best.
if you catch them before the barrel is shot say more then 20 times, and its not stretched or twisted, you can save them.
i have a Ruger 77Mark2 stainless, that was on a ATV the rolled, barrel was bent 3 inches down, 2 inches to the left, bent the rifle so bad it broke the floor plate and trigger guard.
since the stock is just hard rubber , a bit of hot water soaking, and it sprung right back,
i replaced the floorplate, and straightened the barrel, with the receiver still attached, when i did so it seemed to spring right back to its original place, 3 bends to get it dead nuts on.
shot the rifle 2 weeks ago, shot in a dime at 100 yards.
had the rifle been shot with the bent barrel , as soft as Ruger barrels are, it would likely turned to trash.
