Things to do around Chincoteaque Island???
Going there for the weekend and it's not looking like there is much to do there. Yes we are going to look for the horses but not for the entire weekend. Wallops Island has a NASA visitors center but it's small and shouldn't take more than an hour or two. Searched the net and all anyone talks about is the horses.

There's an awesome ice cream shop on the main drag, on the left as you're going towards the horses.

Rent a john boat and knipper for oysters, then go to Assateague and bow hunt some sika deer. Drive around on the beach and get tore up by green head flies, then relax some more. Bay bridge tunnel is something to see if you haven't yet.

I took the wife to Lewis DE in October a few years back to get away. It was dead as a doornail but it was nice to relax and just enjoy each others company without all the distractions. When it comes down to it we all have to put in Chick time. It should be nice, surprise her and suggest a picnic on the beach,,,a secluded beach.

Sorry. When I was last in that area (Spring'70) there was very little to do, of an organized nature. The mosquitoes there are very impressive ... until you get bitten by your first greenhead fly, that is. WHOA!
My dad spent his career with NACA/NASA at Langley Field in Hampton. He traveled to Wallops periodically in the '40s/'50s/60s for various testing ... mostly to do with rockets and telemetry equipment. They had a Grumman Goose that would usually take the engineers to & from.
He had some stories.

Yesterday was surprisingly busy. We went shopping in the morning and I satisfied my love for books detailing the history of places we visit. Then out to Wallops Island to the NASA visitors center. It isn't very big and not super interesting but I still enjoyed it. Then due to the apparent lack of things to do here we traveled about an hour south to the 2nd largest antique mall in Virginia which was smaller than the average antique mall near where I live. Not much there but I snagged a 2nd MK23 practice bomb for about half what they are going for anywhere else. On the return trip, stopped at another antique mall which the wife found a few things and a train museum, again small but interesting and another book. Kept seeing these ads for the best fast food fried chicken at Royal Farms which are everywhere so we tried that. Chicken is good but not KFC good in my opinion. The sides were terrible however and we will never get sides from them again. About this time, my credit card decided it was stolen as all these small book purchases up and down the Delmarva peninsula looked iffy for being out of my home area and I had to take care of that. Back to Chincoteaque and we found the oldest cabin on the island, then the chamber of commerce where we learned some very important news. Assateaque Island was free yesterday due to the 150th birthday of the lighthouse which was also open until 9pm. So we hit the Chincoteaque museum, then crossed the bridge. Found the ponies right away. They weren't real close but not excessively far away either. Spent some time on the beach, weather rather dreary so didn't due much there. Then drove around the island looking at scrub brush and swamps and then hit the lighthouse. Managed to time it so that we were at the top when the lights came on which was pretty cool. By that time we were pretty tired. I wanted to get the sand and salt water off so we went back to the hotel and never managed to leave again for the evening. Pizza delivered to the room. Weather not looking real promising again this morning which is disappointing but probably going shopping for a while anyway.

Well, as a Brit, I had the best Ice Cream ever in Armish country deep Pennsylvania.
What an education that was, a farm at Strasburg Country store.......bought a pair of broques to and they are still going.
They don't do anything bright and shiny, so it was no good asking about guns on those farms, brilliant peaceful people
