Got a Mk1 No 4 magazine that has most of the original finish missing. What paint have you found works best to put back the original look?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. RangeHound, Finish color varies from brown to different shades of black. I've heated a Long Branch buttplate in the oven to 350, IIRC. Then sprayed with auto trim black.

Be aware that a nicely painted magazine may look out of place, depending on the condition of the rifle.

I've used high temp engine paint, which is pretty chemical resistant. I like Brownells Aluma-Hide also, it is really tough.

If I was you Rangehound, I'd send your magazine to BDLicon and he'll bead blast, phosphate and repaint it for you in the genuine sunkorite paint. You won't get more original than that!
