Enfield 1915 Sht LE III*
Was recently given the following by a friend whose father (who passed over 30 years ago) had it:
Enfield
1915
Sht LE
III*
From observation and a bit of self-education, here is the other info I can provide:
--- Steel batch mark on the barrel is L52 (or L 52)
--- Right behind the rear sight the barrel is stamped HV and SC right below that
--- Serial number (5XXX) on receiver ring and barrel matches
--- What I take to be a reissue marking indicates the rifle was reissued in 1933
** This would explain a hard-to-read serial number on the bolt handle, and two crossed-out serial numbers and the correct serial number marked on the underside of the sight
--- I rate the bluing as at least 80%. Metal inside and out is in very nice shape; to me, it appears to have been little used.
--- The stock was sporterized to the extent that the forend was nicely cut and (I assume) refinished. Wooden handguard behind the rear sight remains. Stock still has the brass buttplate with the trapdoor.
As I am no longer in a “project gun” mode, I will soon list this for sale and just wanted to see if I missed anything obvious that would be useful in describing what I have.
Thanks in advance for feedback and suggestions.
All the best,
Keiler
