    1941 BSA

    Hello all.

A question: are there 1941 No. 4 Mk I BSA converted to sniper?

Yes. I have owned several, & still have one. They bear the early BSA marking & the date: 'B1941' & lack the typical markings, although they do usually have the S51 on the butt.

    BSA 1941 4T

Here it is. I knew I had a photo of it stored somewhere......in fact I posted it on here a few weeks ago for an entirely different reason.

Incidentally these early UKicon (BSA, Maltby & the odd Faz) were stocked up in beech. This is quite correct.

    Hope this helps.....

    Thank you Roger.

I think I have one too; even after seeing the photo you entered, I am sure.

Serial number has A suffix amd, the rifle, has the S51 code.

As soon as I can, I'll put some photos.

    Thank you again.

I'd love to see photo's of your rifle giove. One doesn't often see photo's of these early BSA rifles, yet Maltbys & Savages are quite well documented, as are later 'run of production' BSA's of 43 to 45 manufacture.

    Some photos.

The rifle is all matching. The scope is a mismatched Mark II.

The stoch is beech and is a bit sanded.

To notice: the magazine is the No. 4 (magazine, not rifle) of an SMLE, but has the follower af a No. 4 rifle magazine. It fit perfectly.

Thanks giove. It's exactly like all of the others I've seen, & probably one of the very early H&H conversions. The radius on the 'shoulders' either side of the front pad spigot is more generously rounded on the early conversions, & the pad screws being unstaked is also the norm from the ones I've seen, as is the waisted foresight protector. The sight protector will probably be marked SM 41 somewhere on it.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you Roger.

Yes, the sight protector is marked SM 41 on the front.

    What about the magazine?

The magazine is incorrect, and is for a SMLE MkIII. That's easily remedied by finding a correct No.4 magazine.

    Otherwise, very nice rifle!
