Wink Suggestions for an Aussie tourist in Phoenix for a few days - Milsurps kinda stuff

    G'Day All,

I'm headed to Phoenix, AZ for a week in early February to visit family. Being a thoughtful type, I've decided that they need not put up with me for the full time and can have some recuperation time between contact.

That leaves me with a little spare time. Other than the obligatory trip to the Grand Canyon, does any one have any suggestions that I probably should '...go and see...' while in a new place?

Like many, I'm a history addict, museums, nature (within reason in winter and not specifically kitted out for skiing this time) and big toys (planes, trains, trucks.) There, that oughta cover most bases.

Appreciate your thoughts and suggestions, especially the polite ones!

Yes, The Canyon, and either there or back see Flagstaff and Sedona. The Sedona "Pink Jeep" tour was awesome.

I suppose if they still have you can get a driving tour through the USAF "boneyard"
Can do probably 2 of the 3 as a day trip.

    22sqn,

Arizona Commemorative Air Force at Falcon Field in Mesa.-Vietnam era aircraft, A B17 etc--Hands on open hangar. A+
Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum | Flying Tours | AZCAF

Presscott -- An old Cowboy town --There is an historic 1880's Bar. Also J&G Firearms. Antelope herds out of town.

Jerome-- 1800's mining town - Down the road is the ghost town Hayes. There is always a Donkey in the road that doesn't like tourists!

Globe and Miami out East. Semi Ghost towns with lots of old west character. Tumble weeds and eccentric folks.

    Have fun Salt Flat

Thanks SF, the AZCAF deserves a closer look! A flight in a B25...? How can I say no?

Tombstone, Kartchner Caverns off I-10 at Benson come to mind (a southern AZ fan) and then the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum south of Tucson too.
