    M1951 gear question

Picked up a couple pairs of 1951 field pants (wool) as well as a pair of the wool arctic trouser liner. Does anybody know the correct way to button the liner in? Specifically should the wool nap or the nylon lining face in or out?

Not sure it matters or helps(not familiar with those pants), but which material would you prefer next to your long johns? Or your hide if you find you don't need the Y handles.
