    Dads old No5 Mk1

Cleaning out and reorganizing my gun safes today and pulled out my Dads old Jungle Carbine. It's a BSA Shirley that somebody chromed up before he bought it back in the early 60's. I remember it kicked like a mule but it always attracted more than its fair share attention at the range. Dads gone now but his spirt still lives on in this and other rifles I have from his collection.

Is that even hard rubber or just straight steel butt? They do have a kick, but nothing like a M1895 Carbine.

It's hard rubber, and for 11 year old kid it kicked like a mule.

The butt pad is correct, there are guys that will lift the chrome off without damage to the parts. You'd still need a bead blast and blue or park after, bead blast and blue would be closer to real looking. I expect you'll leave it as dad had it?
    Regards, Jim

As you say Jim, if it was my rifle, I would rework the metal and wood as per standard ... But if my father had carried out the work, well, it would stay as it is.

Looks to be very good material condition.

They still kick now. I didn’t notice the rubber on the phone before. Very nice.

Best thing I ever did was reloading cast bullets with 13grs of Red Dot. Makes this monster a pure joy to shoot.

Leaving it as it is, over the years, as dad got older an was disposing of his collection I would aquire them, even if they didnt fit my collection.
