2-16-18 Garand Picture of the Day

His bayonet fixed to his M1icon Garand rifle, a soldier of the 27th Infantry Division

Three soldiers of the 27th Infantry Division take temporary cover from Japaneseicon fire on Saipan. Their vantage point is a rock wall on high ground that overlooks cane fields. The terrain on Saipan contributed to the deliberate progress of the Army troops on the island.

It could be a Jagdpanzer IV.

Funny. Without the upper superstructure and with the large bogeys it deoesn't look like a Hetzer. Notice the Panzer III chassis and the main gun mounted way forward. It looks like they've taken steps to reduce the amount of metal in the drive bogey as well. It looks like some strange variant of Sturmgeschütz but I can put my finger on it.

Think your right Bob here is a Hetzer, plus the other one is missing the return rollers on top hence the slack in the track.

I spent about forty minutes search for that vehicle's ID and had almost given up before I found it. The first thing was establishing the chassis type. Germanicon self-propelled guns are a funny little black hole to fall down.

Yes, it is the JPz IV. I believe the return rollers and other damage came from it burning after being hit and warping. You can see the missing return rollers laying on the ground beside it.
