1903 trigger guard: ID a repro versus original

Is there some reasonably reliable way to spot a used repro versus used original milled 1903 trigger guard?

    Thanks,

    Roy

Irhunter, I bought a repro awhile back. I wasn't happy with it as the price was pretty high. The trigger bow was flat- not the nice oval shape of an original. The finish was kind of an odd gray color similar to Parkerizing. In some places you could see the casting parting lines. Later I replaced the repro with an original that I found at a gunshow. If you can post some pictures I think we can tell. Salt Flat

Well, I am in the market for one...and, will probably buy off the Internet...based on just a description and a pic or two.

Do the originals have any stamped letters, or anything like that?

Here is one marked with an "R." But, I my understanding was the R marked 1903 guards were really uncommon.

The magazine floor plate is marked with an "R", not the trigger guard. A Remington trigger guard has a "R" stamped on the right rear of the trigger bow and those are hard to find.
