    Gun Show Oddity

Went to help Mike out yesterday and was trying to gauge whether we were headed into a frantic buying spree again and I didn't see anything to indicate that. Prices seemed unchanged and I didn't see ton's of AR's walking out the door. What I did see was a lot of guys walking around with M1icon Garands for sale, at least one was as low as $800 and he had no bites on it. Must have been four or five of them. Also saw an M71/84 for $750 which seemed pretty high. As for me, I picked up more 8x56R that I don't really need but it was cheap. A huge ammo can I don't know what I'm going to do with but the price was too tempting. 81mm illumination rounds which are about six inches longer than the standard 81mm rounds. Mike gave me 1st crack at a Marlin 22 that just felt perfect for my new grandson. Seems strange thinking that far ahead but I have girls, one that likes history, both that like hunting although one stopped and both that kind of like shooting but essentially zero interest in my military stuff. Hoping my grandson likes it.

No, not yet. Still in the car. I don't have the rounds, just the can. You want pics of the can?

    It's not a milsurp.

It's a 1965 Golden 39A Mountie. Decent condition but has some very minor pitting here and there. I don't have it cleaned yet, fair amount of light rust on it also Nice old Tasco scope that looks like it might be from the 60's but no real clue on that. Seems to be fully functional with a very good bore. Can't get it apart. Been so long since I've taken mine apart I didn't want to do something wrong with this one. I seem to recall just bumping the stock on the floor once the screw is out but my light taps yesterday didn't do the trick.

I had a hunch, and was hoping it might be a Mountie! I think they're one of the neatest little guns ever. My older brother bought one when I was in the 5th or 6th grade, and still has it. I tried to find a picture of him taken with the gun back then, but couldn't locate it. Here's a "cropped" picture of him taking a few shots with it, while he was up for a visit about 10 years ago. At the time, we attended a gun show in Portland and saw one on a table there about like his - they were asking close to $600 for it. - Bob

I am wagering yes, due to a genetic predisposition.

Here's a pic of the Marlin. I'll have to take one of the can.
