Could always see where a Canberra was when they started up their engines by the great gouts of black smoke rising in the air from the cartridge system they utilized firing up the engine I have a used starter cartridge stashed here somewhere...!
Found it, was hiding behind a naval 5" shell case.
(MkVII 303 for scale)

I believe that Jeff Trappet (sp?) flies a Sabre out of Gippsland, Traralgon if I recall.
Here's a little story about a Sabre that some may find interesting: Request Rejected

As another avenue in about the same era as the Sabre in @2004 I was doing tilt panels at Jandakot Airport in Perth and was informed there was a airworthy P-51 Mustang in a hanger just up from us so during lunch I went into the hanger saw the chap in there and was able to get right up close (no rope barriers or guards) a very nice plane indeed.
But tucked away in the same hanger at the back was a MiG-15UTI in a stored condition (Wings off engine out on trestles) story I got it was only allowed 1 more take off from Jandakot as its noise envelope was to great for it to come back to land due to suburbia it was good to be able to look into each of the cockpits on the Mig I felt pretty privileged to have had that luck to see un hindered up close those 2 planes together.

We had a Saber and a Mig show up here in the city for a show some years back. I happened to be downtown when they flew into the area and they started doing racetracks between the navy base and the far side of town. The Saber had been one of the CDN military showteam and was still painted gold. The Mig was silver-grey. I think most people didn't have a clue what they were seeing over town...we also had an F4U Corsair but he stayed at the airport, I saw him later.
