    Not MILSURP But interesting .22

I bought the Remington 510 Targetmaster I found at the gun store a bit back and although it's not a MILSURP I thought you guys might get a laugh. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "Rifle Bolt" 5/16" from the looks of it.

I looked at this (POST) an hour ago.
Couldn't remember what make, model, tube fed, or mag fed.
    Could only recall 'The Bolt'

I may have some of Super Smith's early work on a Jap 99 (?)
A custom bent bolt handle and multiple attempts drilling holes for a scope mount.
I'm sure as his skills advanced he learned to utilize the 'Custom Bolts'
This one he managed to heat enough so he could bend it down....... without it breaking off.
This way it isn't sticking out near the 3 'o cock position.
    Gotta learn somewhere right?
Wonder where he is now? Maybe a Custom Gunsmith book writer.

Also included is a picture of a M1icon carbine bolt with the top reblued with what I believe was a Sharpie marker.

A custom job like yours would have been my Grandpa's style fix. Weld or braze and call it good enough.

Thx for your post, been a tough personal day, it helped lighten the mood.

BTW: This 99 was brought home by the Grandfather of a friend of my Daughters. Those are the Grandpa's initials carved in it, last name Griffith out of MO. The Father remembers beating on these when they were young and the rifles were commonly found.

It is actually really well done, the braze joint is strong and if I didn't have OCD I would have left it alone. I ran some CCI Long Rifle CB Caps though it and its a really accurate and sweet shooter. I think I might give this to one of my grandkids.

I like your Jap rifle! the joint on the buttstock is what interests me the most. Have you takin the buttplate off, I'm curious what joining they used. Real tight radius on that bolt handle but he gotter' done.

I've got a Remington Model 12 buttstock with the initials on it.. I've been thinking of various ways to cover them up

Pop it in a milling machine and just mill out the initialed section. Place a patch and you’re good to go. I did that on a Remington Model 8 once. Match the grain and get close on the color and it will look fine.

At one time, that was the excepted method. Heat and use a pipe to bend to position.
