nq,
The moon is actually a lightly stamped Bomb shell.
The B means this receiver was made by Singer Manufacturing Company (not Singer Sewing)
Singer made and supplied the bare receiver to Underwood.
Adds some value to it.
I see your Recoil plate is a post war cast type. If mine I'd replace with one marked for Underwood.... that closely (If possible) matches the receiver in color.
Thx for sharing it.

I know these other guys are too couth to say it. Luckily I ate lead paint chips as a child so I don't possess those filters.
Don't worry, nothing a little paint stripper and linseed oil won't fix.

Hell, WarPig, I'll be uncouth with ya.
The furniture shop ruined that stock with a film finish. And not a good one, at that.
Strip that junk off and put a coat of oil on it.
And don't worry about the apartment. linseed oil smells halfway pleasant and I once stripped a painted up 1917 in my apartment bathtub -- I still have most my brain cells too.

And the Recoilplate looks much nicer.
Shoot it, enjoy it.

linseed oil is a salad dressing to some people, it's eatable, not dangerous what so ever. Raw that is not the boiled variety.

Looks like a tung-oil finish. It's fine, like Painter said shoot it and enjoy it. The more you use it the better.
Best Regards.....Frank

Shine could be buffed down later, because that new finish is probably still curing.
Very nice grab from Ebay for the money.
