Hi everybody,

after reading the book our good friend Cinders suggested (Death Traps - extremely interesting, by the way!), I'm now reading Durchbruch bei Stalingrad, from Heinrich Gerlach (in English it is Breakout At Stalingrad).
Gerlach is the guy who wrote The Forsaken Army and Odyssey In Red, novels about his experiences around and in Stalingrad and the following captivity.
Breakout At Stalingrad is the original version of The Forsaken Army, written during his captivity and hidden until 1949, when the NKVD found and confiscated it. It came out during archival research a few years ago and has been published in German last year.
If you are interested in the agony of the 6th Army or in the captivity in Russian hands, these books are simply wonderful.
I read The Forsaken Army and Odyssey In Red still as a teenager and these books have really left a deep print in me, together with dozens others about the Russian campaign I read after them. But they were the first ones with 100.000 Gavette Di Ghiaccio, from Giulio Bedeschi (unfortunately not translated into English as far as I know).
Now I have also received a new one which I'll read after Gerlach's: The 1929 Sino-Soviet War, from a Michael M. Walker. And after that I'll hopefully be able to order and read Nomonhan 1939: The Red Army's Victory That Shaped World War II, by Stuart D. Goldman. It is not available anymore, but hope is the last to die...

Just as a few small suggestions to those who are interested in whatever military...
