It fits exactly in the way that I've seen about a half dozen others. The others that I have seen, several had RA-P stamps on the stock. They also were stamped with the last four in the handguard and stock like this rifle. several also had receiver sights on them. One of them had real DCM paperwork as being sold out of Odgen arsenal I believe in the 60's, or some Army Arsenal.
I really think as I said, especially now with seeing these additional pics, that this style of rifle was some type of target rifle rebuild program that was post Korea. My hunch is the Marines kept their NM And special target seperate and turned them over to the Army probably notating they were Match rifles.
Then the Army rebuild them again as target/range rifles. That's just been my hunch and your's just fits the narative exactly as I've seen others.
Usually these rifles will also have a serialed bolt. But a weird serialed bolt. They grind off a bare spot on the top of the parked bolt and eletric pencil the serial on it. Probably because it's hard to get a electric pencil to arch on a parked bolt without taking the finish off.
I know I talked about this style of rifle years ago I believe on this forum. Let me see if I can find the link. It was to three of them. Two of which had the star, but all three, and now yours have the same traits.

Here is the link to that discussion.
I can't post it, but I have another rifle pictured that is exactly like this as well that I have a ton of photos of it. That is the one that has sales documents. I'm thinking it was to odgen but maybe it was Letterkenny. I'm not sure. Re-reading that old post, the op makes a comment that the rifle came from someone who worked at Letterkenny. Maybe that isn't a coincidence.
I'm going to go back and find out where the one I have pics of was sold at. IF it was from Letterkenny, maybe these rifles have some type of history with LetterKenny. I will check and report back.
Link to 3 more rifles like this yours. Also when you read it, I make a comment about a punch mark on the rail. IGNORE that. lol I've learned way more about these rifles since I posted that back then. lol

I double checked, the other one which was for sure Marine and was sold out of Letterkenny Arsenal. Same as the op on the other post said the guy he got it off of, worked at. It can't be a coincidence.
Letterkenny is in Pennsylvania. About 2 1/2 hrs from the Marine Philadelphia Depot. Maybe when the Marines got rid of them they shipped them to LetterKenny since they were so close? It might be a lead I've never explored before. This is interesting.
By the way, the NM around your serial from the SRS.

Thanks for the link to the old post! It's really interesting. I wonder how many are like this.
After I read your previous post about the electric penciling on the bolt, I went and looked again. It's faint, but it's there.

With the star on the barrel you do see them. I know of maybe 15 or 20, between the M1903's, M1's, and M1911's.
The rifle like yours with the serial stamped in the wood and such, maybe 6ish or so.
The thing in all this, it's a puzzle.
I mean there is so many variables here and not a lot of evidence to prove anything other than there is for sure a pattern developing, and they do seem to have some connection with the Marines and it seems Letterkenny.
LetterKenny documents are a archive that has never been gone through by any researcher that I know of, so God only knows what would be in there if they did. Now I want to find out, so I'm going to try to hit them and see if there is a clue in there.
If nothing else you gave me a very interesting lead to investigate. Beautiful rifle by the way.

By the way I won't say I'm not wrong, these could be built by the Marines in some program post WWII that has never been documented, and maybe they were only sold by the Army through the DCM.
But I just have a hunch. Maybe I'm right, Maybe I'm wrong. I hope someday we find a document that proves exactly who did them and why.

I bought this at a gun shop in Thomasville, GA. I have a pretty good relationship with them and I'll see if they'll put me in contact with the previous owner.
And thank you and everyone else again for your time and knowledge. I'm very appreciative.
