The originals were nice and polished
All of them Jim?

I don't think the example in my collection has been refinished, though I may be wrong.

We went through this some time back...what year was that one made Charlie? Here's a thread that tells you how it got that way. https://www.milsurps.com/showthread....jungle+carbine

Thanks Jim, fascinating thread (credit to Big Duke! ). You may well be right.
I'd always assumed it was an unmessed with bayonet, but maybe it did go through Peter's (or some other armourer's) hands?
It's a Poole 1946. The parkerising is a light grey, almost with a green hint. The blade has no notches or signs that it was ever sharpened, here are a few more close ups;

I haven't taken off the wood since I got it (2006, Beltring, £70 - they were never cheap!) and interesting to see that the cross guard and pommel are welded as well as riveted, evidence of a re-furb?
But I'm thinking, as a matter of interest (and history), the question is this; was this how they were originally manufactured, or finished after a re-work?
Cheers.

Yes...they were originally peened at the cross pins.

Hard to believe the Poole's are bringing that much being post war and all.

Rarity value, supply and demand I guess.

2000, Beltring, £38 - quite a good price even then. ;-)
