Bren Gun marking disc ?

I have what I think is a Canadian made Bren No.1 butt stock .It has a what, I think is a missing marking disc. It is located on the right side between the ring for the sling and the operating slide cover .The cut out is 7/8''of inch in dia. . Is this for a marking disc , and was it used only on the Canadian built No.1 Bren Gun ? Can any one tell me where I get one ? If it is a marking disc were they ever used in service to mark any thing ?

Exactly the same disc as used on the rifle and used in exactly the same way on both UK and Canadian Mk1 Brens. One of the first things to be declared obsolete so it is a fairly early butt. There is a good little book about butt marking discs and their markings in UK service available from BDL in SC as I recall. Excellent reading too.......

Where the Canadian marking disc made in steel and brass ?

Both brass and steel. Steel later due to brass being declared as a strategic war material
