Nice SA marked No 4
I don't post a lot on here but I do lurk a lot and I thought I would post this nice rifle here for you all to enjoy as well. I was on the road for work this week and stopped in to a gun store on my lunch break. I found this nice 1948 Fazakerley No 4 Mk 1, all matching (including fore-end), hollow bolt handle, grooved rear handguard, brass buttplate and South African marked. The bore is immaculate. These pics aren't the best, I will get better later, but this rifle is pretty and has many South African stamps on it. It needs a good, gentle cleaning as it is very dusty and greasy and I will take many better pics then.

Interesting that a mkI would be manufactured in 1948. Check to see if it isn't a mkII that is wrongly numbered. Haven't seen the stamp on the butt before either. There is more to this rifle than it seems.

It is a true Mk 1. I have never seen that kind of marking on the wrist of the butt before, either. That was one of the reasons I picked it up. It also has the U with broad arrow stamped on the underside of the butt, underside of the fore-end and front of the receiver. I will post those pictures in the coming days as I get time to fully clean it.

Some of the SA No 4 MK I rifles are MK I up to January of 1949, somewhere around 72,000. If really important I can find the latest serial number but it was around that serial range
