What are the rectangular "box like" thing on the 2 Marines in the center of the photo?
Judging from the other equipment in the photo, I am guessing that they are either a regimental or division command radio sets.
Would those be radios? SCR 300?

Jim -- I am thinking they are a broken down SCR-284. The SCR-284 was used for communication from the front line to the Fleet. The unit was so heavy that it had to be broken down into two units to be carried. The SCR-284 mounted in a jeep proved to be damaging on the equipment so it was carried my troops. I found a reference that carrying a SCR-284 was like carrying a modern window air conditioner on your back.Originally Posted by browningautorifle
