Number 4 mark 1 question
Hi all. I'm looking at buying a number 4 mark 1. I have no experience with these rifles. All the stamps seem to match up with the only book I have on these and what I can find on the internet, except a L9 stamp on the bolt. If anyone can tell me what that stamp means I would appreciate it. Thanks. Gork

If you could manage a photo it may help people to help you. Is it stamped into the machined out recess in the long locking lug of the bolt body?

Sorry. I don't have a photo. To answer your question, yes it is on the machined portion of the bolt. Thanks. Gork

I suspect it will either be the identity of the contractor/subcontractor who made the bolt body, or it will be an examiner's identifying mark. However, others may be able to be more specific for you. If the bore is decent & the bolt & rifle body serials match you're off to a good start. The bolt serial will be on the rear face of the bolt handle.
