    Interesting Enfield ConD 11*

This Lee Enfield was found at a remote gun show some years ago, the price was $45 and my friend bought it for me as he said the rear hand guard alone was worth the price. I had a few talks with the late Skip Stratton about this rifle and he thought it might have been a Mark 1 action body that was used and not a conversion from an early rifle ?

A few interesting features, this rifle still has the barleycorn front sight and the barrel is without the SC or HV stamps. The bore is excellent. The magazine is the second variation.
The butt stock has been modified for the later sling swivel. The rear sight is low being 1 mm high. I believe this rifle is chambered for the Mark V1 cartridge ? Not much is matching numbers.

    Any opinions would be welcome, RobertAttachment 99855Attachment 99856Attachment 99857Attachment 99858Attachment 99859Attachment 99860Attachment 99861Attachment 99862Attachment 99863

Yes, a good buy for you by someone looking past the price tag. The mag would be worth more than you paid... Neat old rifle, with lots of history. How about a few overall pics?
    Regards, Jim

saw a letter from Enfield about these that said there were not enough suitable LLE actions on hand to convert so they used SMLE MkI bodies.
In WWI Enfield built MkIII rifles using new MkI bodies that were on hand.

Well the chamber is the same for both VI & VII.
The difference is in the height of the rear sight bed.

That is a Cond rifle build on a Sht LE mk1 receiver, the charger guide and the sliding bolt guide stop are cast into the receiver rather than rivetted on separately.. It may be one of those times where the barrel is the master part. It has a MkIII forend denoted by the use of wire reenforcing at the back of the forend rather than a pin with roves. Does it have a MIII rear sling swivel with the two screws or the Mk1 style with a single screw and squared joint?
