Rifle, Ross Mk IIIB

British contract purchased the Ross Mk III with a simplified rear sight known as the "War Office Pattern" sight (and front sight similar to P14).

The stock was also supposedly strengthened at the wrist.
66,590 produced.

They should have all of the production updates (heavier stock, larger bolt stop, proper bolt heat treatment) as they were the last Ross rifles manufactured.

"L C" stamped means enlarged chamber for the poor quality war time ammo.

Yes, those were the last Rosses produced. Most as best I can tell went to the Middle East after service with the British. Pretty much all of the ones I have seen have a large serial number stamped on the receiver (as does this one) and usually have a decent number of stock markings often painted and often in something like Farsi. There is something about this one which is off--it may be a trick of the photographs but I am wondering if that barrel is too short.
It seems there is less of it sticking out of the front of the stock than there should usually be; could be my imagination.

Not sure if this one was among the last manufactured...Curiously, upon close examination of the pics, it has the early (small) bolt stop, yet the later forged bayonet band.
