Need info on this Enfield No. 2 Mk 1** revolver

A friend requested that I research this Enfield revolver for him. Since my knowledge of Enfield and Webley "pistols" is almost nill I turn to the forum for assistance.

The attached pics are of what I believe to be a Enfield No. 2 Mk1 ** in cal .38/200.

The right side is marked "DI**" Is this a code for plant of manufacturer?
The cylinder is marked "S.P.T. 54" Meaning?
The top of the barrel is marked " Proof marks, broad arrow/45" Is 45 the year of production?

Why does is take the hands of Thor to open a No. 2?
What is the purpose of the little wings in front of the cylinder?

SPT 54 don't know but Police something, 1954
Yes, 45 = year or production
Hands of Thor, the barrel strap is too tight. But remember after a bit of use it will(?) loosen up. Remember, generally mechanical things do not tighten up with age.
Little wings are brush guards to deflect anything from the face of the chamber.

I have noticed that many people when attempting to open a top break Enfield/Webley will push down mightily on top of the barrel while depressing the latch. This locks the catch. Push down on the barrel lightly, one finger will do it.
SPT 54 is steel batch number.

I can't seem to put SPT/54 into a steel manufacturer category. Not saying that it isn't of course but it's not the usual ones we see like CF etc etc, Interesting.

This model lacks the hammer safety stop, omitted to save machining time, and they can be dangerous if dropped.

SPT would be more likely the unit ie Special Patrol Taskforce and the persona; number used by the Detective Inspector DI**

I also think the SPT is the steel batch number but it’s possibly SBT as I think I have one marked as that.

The DI** isn’t Detective Inspector it’s EnfielD Mk1 **

Little wings help to get it into a floppy canvas holster, cylinder doesn't catch on the edges of the holster.
