    RCS..

A few hours of searching I can find one reference to a 42 dated Scabbard made by Hess and Hopkins.
No pictures, just a post by a Englishman named Leatherneck17 near the bottom in this link:
M1 Carbine Leather Scabbard - G503 Military Vehicle Message Forums

Did see a scabbard described as for the Carbine and dated 42 being offered for sale. But it's for the M1 Garand not a Carbine.
    Neat picture showing it mounted:

And came across this picture showing a few different Scabbards.
    From the Bicycle link above:
    Thompson
    M1 Garand
    M1 Carbine
    M1A1icon Paratrooper

Anyone own or seen a 1942 Dated M1 Carbine Leather Scabbard ?

    carbine scabbard

Charlie, thanks for doing the research on the leather scabbards, it would be quite a find to locate a 1942 dated scabbard. I also have a M1A1icon canvas Atlas Awning 1943 and have seen them dated 1944 too and other contractors. I bought mine a very long time ago but understand these have been faked now.

    Thanks again RCSAttachment 101196Attachment 101197Attachment 101198

    Scabbard Strap Hardware

    Robert,
Do you have the straps for your leather scabbard ?
I seen a couple complete 44 dated real ones for sale @ $400 and up..IIRC
Curious as I ran across a set of Repro straps being offered on Ebay.
But they show the buckles and hooks with a bright brass color.
I'm not familiar enough with them to tell if the hooks are the same shape/style as original ones.

Anyone know if the originals were a bright Brass ?
Or were they blackened like our carbine sling snaps ?
The aged originals I see show the hardware with a black or maybe tarnished finish ?

Just curious...... As if needed I have a few thoughts on how to drop the brass hardware shine and get a black finish.

Auction example of hardware style and color..

Hooks have different make/detail on the top picture (the repro) vs the bottom picture of JimF4M1sicon scabbard...

    No surprise there I guess.

Charlie, I bought carbine scabbard straps from Hayes Otoupalik around the middle 1990's for about $40, They look too new but I kept them and thought
that if I sell the leather scabbard at some point the straps can go with it. The Otoupalik straps are repro with brass hooks.

Now I understand the really rare leather scabbards are the Model 1903 scabbards converted to use the M1icon rifle before WW2
