    Arrow Match legal in Canada?

Since hooking up with this website, I've seen more Commonwealth rifle that I ever thought were out there. You fellows have a great selection of military as well as target guns. I'm going to start looking for more printed material on these weapons if for nothing else to know what you fellows are talking about. I haven't seen even a small percent of these rifles down here in more than 30 years of gunshow prowling. Do you guys have matchs for the different classes of weapons, i.e. stock G.I. issue, target, sniper, etc.? What kind of performance do you get from some of the hi-breds?? Are the target/sniper weapons available in very limited numbers????? M.T.-SDH

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. The equivalents of the NRA/State Rifle Associations as far as target shooting is concerned are the Dominion of Canadaicon Rifle Association and Provincial Rifle Associations. The is also the shooting Federation of Canada which is involved with the ISSF disciplines. IPSC, CDPA are popular, as is Cowboy Action Shooting, black powder, benchrest, smallbore, bullseye pistol, trap, skeet, etc. There are many clubs with outdoor or indoor ranges. Through the DCRA/PRAs there are matches for Target Rifles (Palma style rifles), F Class, Precision (Sniper) Rifle, Service Rifle, Service Pistol, Vintage Rifle, Historical Rifle, Swissicon Rifle. If you go to www.dcra.ca, and the various links there, you can get an idea. As far as organizations which host shoots are concerned, I belong to DCRA, Ontario RA, Operational Shooting Association (CQB, Precision rifle, service style pistol) and Haliburton County Marksmen Club. (www.hcmcnet.com.) Collectable sniper rifles are rare, and priced accordingly. There are many target rifles.
Our centrefire national matches are held at the Connaught Ranges near Ottawa every August. This year, after the regular matches, Canada is hosting the World Long Range Championship - The Palma. Connaught is a superb shooting facility. Many US shooters come up every year to compete. Some prefer Connaught to Camp Perry.

I would think the weather up there would be far better than Camp Perry, the boiler effect plays with the shooters-SDH

Many clubs also host specialized milsurp shoots, milsurp sniper shoots, milsurp handgun shoots, etc. My club is one such club - Eastern Ontario Handgun Club.

Do you have good turn outs? We have a lot of informal stuff around here but not much for anything other than DCM stuff, which is US arms, stinks! I'd like to show them what a Finnishicon M39 could do to the paper.-SDH

Usually about 20 or so shooters is the norm at our local club matches. They're pretty fun IMHO.

I'm thinking of putting up a few signs in local gun shops to see what knid of interest there would be in open class milsurp only bench shoot. If there is enough interest, go for it. I can't hold off hand due to a little back problem, so it would have to be a bench shoot. Maybe even have two matchs one a regular 3-position military style, and sit that one out and then a bench shoot, hum, sound like a good plan?-SDH
