Duel of the Carbines: M1 Carbine vs. M4

Is the U.S. Carbine, Caliber .30 M1icon still viable in a post-AR world?

Welcome back Frank, long time away.

We have a member that's carried an M1icon carbine for his back up go to gun for years. He's always touted it's use. I used them both but would now use an M4 type as ammo's more available. If one was out somewhere you can likely find .223/5.56 but most guys won't have .30 carbine if you need resupply...mags, spare parts too. Also I'm more confident now with an M4.
    Regards, Jim

Thought to consider. The M1icon has a less threatening image than the M4 'assault rifle'.

Depends on it's needed use . The .30 is light and handy but not accurate past about 200 and is kind of weak . Ars are in 5.56 and 300Blackout ( which can do anything a 30 carbine can do and more ) and my close-in favorite , .458 Socom . It can be in the 45-70 class of whoomph with 10 shots of 300 gr bullets or push a 500 grain slug at close to 1500 ( or 1000-1100 ish suppressed out of a 8 inch barrel ) . Fast twist 10.5 inch barrels are available now and fast twist 8 inchers by early next year ( stabilized for suppressor use ) .

I loved shooting my M1icon Carbines there lots of fun. I've also used it several times hunting those Freaking Hogs at the Ranch. I like using Hornady CD 110 gr FTX in my Carbine and my Ruger Blackhawk Pistol. I learned years ago to Never hunt those B*st*rds again without carrying a Pistol. I use to hunt them with a 5 Roung Mag in my Carbine and one in my Shirt pocket. The last time I was out there was about 20 month's ago and nobody was going out there that I gave keys to so they could go anytime they wanted to. I went out there about a month ago and it seems they have tripled and are now everywhere. I look forward to going out there with my 5.56 Shorty and a few Magazines once I hit up the P & R Club and knock of any rust I might have. Hopefully Good Times are finally going to happen.

I'd take an M14icon and a Desert Eagle in .44...for hogs. Maybe an M4 in .50 Beowulf...

I know you would Jim...You need to come down here and help me get rid of a few. I guarantee you we would have a blast. I have some (well you know) and we could get rid of quite of few.
