Lithgow SMLE sight protector vert screw thread type enquiry

    Hey all,

    I've ended up with a slightly "bubba-ed" Lithgowicon .303

The threaded metal stock insert which receives the vert bolt on that big ugly front sight protector is absent.
Is this a standard imperial thread? I'm hoping against hope I could source a large bolt that I could grind down to fit inside the stock recess.

    Anybody know?

    Cheers,

    DeeBee

The only "standard' thread on a SMLE is the stock bolt inside the butt ( 7/16' Whitworth), (ish). . Everything else is an "Enfield Special", regardless of whether made in Britainicon, Australiaicon or India.

However, there are still a few bits and pieces floating about.

The little bit you are missing is called the NUT, Vocab Number BB0700 and Drawing number SAID 2030.

The thread is one of those "specials", i.e.: 0.144dia x 37tpi.

Try Alan Hibbs in Kingaroy for starters.

If you have no luck with Alan, they're also regularly on sale on that internet auction site, at least on the UKicon version. If you set your search to worldwide, type in 'Lee Enfield SMLE spares' or similar, you're sure to find them. They are more often than not NOS, & sometimes come complete with the rear nose cap screw. If you still have any difficulties pm me.

Thanks for that Bruce.. , Rodger & Cinders.
I thought that it looked a bit too fine to be a std thread.

    Cheers,

    DeeBee
