Beautiful picture! is this Sherman firing with his main gun or is the explosion an incoming shell?

My guess is that it's either a mine that's been set off or incoming. Mind you, I don't see any signs of a mine flail.

I,m thinking mine. The fire burst is straight up. Poor guy looking out the hatch!

The driver would get a hammering as well with a mine going off close in front of him - hatch closed or not.
