Unknown Star marked barrel?

Can anyone tell me what this star on the barrel indicate? The barrel does not have a NM barrel mark and is dated SA-11-51.

This star mark in this position also shows up on some Marine M1903 rifles. Same location, same star. The meaning of it is not known and I've never found any evidence to tie it for sure to the Marine Corps. So I don't know if it's a marking that was applied in the Marines, or it's a marking that was applied to the rifle after it left the Marines.

What is the serial range?

I think it was in the 1.4 or 1.8m range on a FG rifle at the north store. Thanks Steve for the info. Regards
