Unfired M1 Garand
I purchase this Garand form a elderly gentleman who told me. It’s never been fired. He has paper on it but can’t find it. I would appreciate any information and value.
International Harvester receiver Ser. # 5181798. Top of receive right leg D6528291-AA. On right leg etched A4, 9/64. SA bolt, Barrel marked. SA 8535448 3-63 Y18 PM square stamp. TE 1, MW 0. Trigger housing IH D6528290 Hammer is SA. Oprod SA. Pistol grip marked P Stock has N stamped under butt plate. The stock has been inlaid with a peace above the trigger housing cap. (as shown in pix) Right wheel on rear sight marked DRC. The left IH|C. Link to pictures

The wood you see inset at the sides is because of spongy wood or damage. It wouldn't leave new with that. The forged trigger guard is early so a replacement there, I think the barrel should be line material manufacture. There were some Springfield barrels used early and towards the end of the line though... I think this is an accumulation of parts but in new shape. He maybe means he's never fired it. Could that "A4" etched mark really be AA? Sounds to me like an arsenal rebuild (perhaps Anniston?) of September 1964, especially with a Springfield barrel from March of 1963.

Sorry but your rifle is not unfired. It has been well used in fact rebuilt in Sep 1964 at Anniston Army Depot

Looks to be in Service Grade condition so plus or minus $1000.
CMP is selling similar rifles (in store only no mail order).

1960 rebuilds are selling in the $1000range, maybe add couple hundred dollars fir IHC. On a good day $1200 or possibly$1300
