    Tokarev SVT40

    HELP !!!! Please !!!

Once upon a time there was a ridiculous regulation here in Mauserland called the "Kriegswaffenkontrollgesetz" which was intended to prevent military rifles from looking like - yes, you guessed it - military rifles.

As a result, things like the flash hider and bayonet lugs were cut off Enfield no.5s, No. 4s had the bayonet lugs on the barrel sawn off -etc. etc.

And the SVT40 had the barrel brake removed.

This nonsense is now past, and the barrel brake was put back on again some time ago, but only secured with a grub screw (weak) which was not even secured with Locktite or something similar (bad mistake).

Well, the inevitable happened - the grub screw must have loosened, and two weeks ago, when my friend arrived home: no barrel brake!

Needless to say, all plausible and even a number of implausible corners of his home and the range were searched. No luck.

So the appeal for help is thus: has anyone out there got a dimensioned drawing of the SVT40 muzzle brake? We could machine a replacement, if only we knew the dimensions. Tokarev spares are strictly unobtanium here.

Even the length and diameter would help in scaling up a good photo.

Thanks for reading this, and extra thanks to anyone who can produce dimensions or a drawing.

    Patrick

    Wish I could help...
But maybe it would be important to know which type you’re looking for.
The one with 2 or with 6 chambers?

"The one with 2 or with 6 chambers?"

??? Its a rifle, it only has one chamber.

If you mean the slits on the muzzle brake, I think there were 6.

Yes sorry, I was meaning the slits.
There are two versions, one with two big ones and one with 6 thinner ones.

Muzzle brakes usually have expansion chambers inside as part of the design. The holes and slots are additional to the braking effect, directing the gases.

Aw, c'mon guys. I realize that probably nobody has a drawing of the thing, but couldn't someone at least measure the outside diameter of the muzzle brake? Please!!!

Patrick, I’ll ask the guys from my Italianicon collector’s forum. Maybe they can help.

    Patrick,
What’s the drawing worth to you? I see these available for $40 or so.
I’d be happy to purchase one and put together a drawing for you.
I’m a draftsman by trade and this would be a pretty quick project for me.

Just reimburse my purchase cost and I’d be happy.

    Let me know!
