What's this marking?

I've come across a bit of an anomaly in the family of Lee Enfield.

I'm hoping some eagle-eyed type with a heap more knowledge of matters Lee Enfield will be on the ball and put me in a place of higher knowledge. Or, start a damn good Anorak-like argument about what it 'should' and 'shouldn't' be! (Just kidding, let's not get too carried away here, this is a place to learn...)

Attached is the photo on the receiver ring of a No 4 Mk 1*.

What are your thoughts as to the origin and correct description of the marking?

You've probably already had this suggested, but is it Hebrew? Israeli property marks?

Thanks Jim, no, I hadn't. An interesting thought.

The rifle is a No 4 Mk I* that has a curious history. Hence, the reason I'm interested to find out what others may know.

I'll provide some more information in a day or so, depending on bites and suggestions. I don't want to situate responses by providing cluses for guessing. I'm hoping some one will know the most correct details. (A bit wishful! )

Looks like it has some extra dimension to the outer part, not just a simple line like the Canadian C Broad arrow. Maybe it is trying to be a slightly off struck Turkish Crescent or something similar? Can't say I remember seeing anything like that before.

I think it's a partially double-struck marking: K (or some other symbol) inside a C (or incomplete circle).

The "K" could be a Japanese marking. But there are so many symbols that when they are poorly struck you've got a whole bookful to speculate about!

I don't know for sure either, but it looks reminiscent of a few Israeli set-up No4 T barrelled actions I saw many years ago that had come out of Paker-Hale's 'tunnel'. They had Hebrew markings on the receiver ring similar to the one shown, but it was in the days long before everyone had a smart phone incorporating a decent camera, so I took no photo's & I simply can't remember if the markings are just similar or are identical. So my money is with BAR's suggestion....!

I know Israeli markings and it does not look like that. I am going left field and thing it looks like a Iraqi marking I had on a German K98 years ago. Rings a bell in the back of my mind.....
