Picked up a VG to EXC CZ 82 9x19

Through the years I have had two CZ 82s and one CZ 83 (.380). I love them, and they are incredibly accurate for a service pistol, especially a Com-Block one! I sold my CZ83 about four years back and regretted it ever since. Went into my local gunshop two weeks ago, and found a REALLY clean CZ 82 in 9x18 Mak for $350 with accessories. I just picked it up yesterday. It came with military flap holster, lanyard, cleaning rod and two mags (10 round). I still have my cross swords marked mags that I had before the ban. I have 100 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense, and 300 rounds of Russianicon generic steel case for it already.

Loaded with Buffalo Bore or Core-Bon, it will replace my S&W Shield as my EDC piece. After doing a few of the above rounds for function, 99.9% of the shooting will be probably Russian steel fodder. Back up mags will have Hornady FTP or FTX ammo in them. Don't want to beat it up unnecessarily!

On another note, this thing carries so easy in the Milt Spats "Summer Special" IWB, I got home this afternoon about 4, and forgot I was wearing it until about 7 PM! It fits my body in the 4 o'clock position perfect, and does not "print" on my loose hanging, untucked T shirt.

Besides being crazy accurate (even with 9x18 steel case), it is also one of the most fun pistols I have ever owned to shoot! The S&W Shield 9mm that was my EDC piece before the CZ 82, was not fun to shoot. It was reasonably accurate, but NOT enjoyable to plink with. I actually traded the Shield straight across for this CZ 82! My Glock 19 that I have had since I first got it as a duty weapon in 1994 is incredibly reliable, never having a malfunction in 26 years! It is also fairly accurate, but once again, not particularly fun to shoot.

The CZ, on the other hand, makes me smile every time I shoot it. I used my last CZ 82 to qualify for my retired LEO HR218 qualification, and easily kept them all in the 10 and X on a B27. Just for good measure, I put 13 rounds in the head of a B27 at 15 yards with little effort. They are shooters....

Neat little pistol, you said 9X19 in the title though, my first thought was "That'll be a handful"...but it's 9X18 so it's normal. Wouldn't mind a try...

I would have preferred a .380 CZ 83, but in Commiefornia I am limited to private party transfer on pistols not on the approved list. The .380 offer a wider assortment of loads, but the 9x18 has a fair amount of good performers available also: Buffalo Bore, Corbo, Hornady Critical Defense. The 9x18 has a slight advantage in Muzzle Energy in performance loads (Buffalo Bore gives 311 ft lbs from a CZ 82), and a greater frontal area (.365" vs .355") Russianicon ammo is still dirt cheap for it, too. I may pick up a .380 barrel just to have on hand in case 9x18 dries up. It is a straight across barrel trade after driving out the retention pin, pressing the old barrel out, and pressing the new barrel in.

New California DOJ approved CZ83, if you can find them, run $500 and up! This was $350 including the pistol (in VG to EXC), the military flap holster, two mags, cleaning rod, and some boxes of Russian steel case ammo. I was even able to trade my S&W Shield 9mm straight across, including transfer fees, so I got the better end of the deal. I still had 5 of the military surplus Czechicon 9x18 mags from my last one. (in California, you NEVER sell legally owned high-caps!).

I sure would. Ammo shouldn't dry up though.

Wow, I LOVE it! Took it plinking in the woods. It is dead nuts on at 15 to 20 yards. I did a whole magazine bouncing a pop can with every shot. Put a 4" pinecone on the bank 15 yards away, and nailed it dead center from 15 yards, free hand using a Weaver stance. Recoil was almost non-existent thanks to the steel frame and ergonomic grip, and rapid repeat shots were a piece of cake. Way more accurate and fun to shoot than the S&W Shield 9mm!

Ammo was some white box Russianicon 9x18 with sealant around case mouth and primer.

BTW, Apex has real Czechicon military CZ 82 mags with the crossed swords acceptance stamp, phosphate or flat black finish, and no seams for $24.95. The three I just saw were New Old Stock. They seem to be the only place not selling the fake "mfg CZ" stamped ones with the terrible seams.

    Question on the CZ 82

I just bought one and on initial inspection I removed the magazine and racked the slide back. The slide stop fell right out. After some tinkering I found that the slide stop will stay in place if the mag is in the pistol. This can't be right, is it?

No, that's not right. Go to CZ82 CZ83 CLUB the CZ82 forum. Lots of knowledge.
