My Uncle was a military advisor with the 5th Special Forces in the early 60’a then went back for two more tours. I have some pictures that i found of him there. Lost all his hair and more scars then I could count as a child. He never said much about his time there. One has to wonder how a person can survive 3 tours in Vietnam with the SP’s only to be killed by getting hit by a truck on a icy Connecticut road on his way home from my grand uncle Funeral.

When I was there the snake was called a krait snake and reportedly gave you three steps instead of two. In any case there is no snake in the world that can kill a person that quickly. The stories are just one of the many myths that seem to arise when you get a bunch of young men together to tell 'there I was' stories. This is not to say that some of these reptiles weren't deadly as without anti-venom many would most certainly kill and I don't remember any anti-venom being supplied. Tom

There's a high probability that Agent Orange is the cause of the Melanoma I'm currently dealing with. Side effects from the cancer meds nearly (literally) killed me in June.
I did three tours. I know I was in areas that had been sprayed, were actively being sprayed while I was in them, and down stream from sprayed areas. All our drinking water came from rivers and stream in those no bottled water days. And of course, there was also the chemicals used to make the 'water' safe to drink -- not to mention the little orange bomber anti-malaria tablets that gave you the trots.

We will all end up in Toe Tag City sooner or later. I just prefer later -- a lot later -- than sooner.

Read somewhere of a officer who was somehow grabbed by a tiger in India; the tiger had his shoulder near the neck in its jaws and was dragging him along. He happened to be wearing a decent-sized hunting knife or dirk and had the presence of mind to feel along the tiger's underside for the beat of its heart, whereupon he stabbed it with the dirk and it rapidly expired. The wounds left him with a permanent hunch for the rest of his life. He must have been a healthy fellow for the wounds not to have turned septic considering how bites from even domestic cats are inclined to do so. Though perhaps tigers in the wild had better dental hygiene due to a more natural diet - just like humans!?

I prefer later but trust the eventual location will be far superior.

Reminds me of a story about the famous Canon Scott, chaplain in the CEF. Marching up to the line one day with a battalion someone called out to him, "Padre, where are we going?"
"That depends entirely on how we have lived!" replied the Canon, which led to much laughter, and perhaps some thought.

It was rumored that tigers in Viet Nam associated gunfire with free food. Between that and the VC, leaving the area after springing an ambush was prudent. Some folks think they are not the only predators to have learned that behavior.
