Two posts up there is a picture of a No.5 Mk.1 with a launcher tube on it.
There was a request for info on one that was found as a relic at Pegasus Bridge in Franceicon.
Does anyone remember if there was a response or any information on it show up.
I do not believe it was a "one of" and looking to find out some info on it.
Can supply any markings off the rifle you might need.
    Just send me a PM..

That's interesting Warren, I seem to recall Pete Laidlericon casting doubt on that No5 rifle/spigot contraption a few years ago?

Wouldn't early June 44 be extremely early for any front line use of the No5, unless these specials were made up from trials rifles perhaps?

Or just #5 butts on #4 rifles? We'd need to see one with it's clothing off...

    Warren,
After you raised the Pegasus Bridge "find". I have spoken now to both Museum Directors at Pegasus Bridge and Airborne Assault Duxford, and Bob Hilton who knows everything Operation Market and Garden, and especially Pegasus Bridge, and there is absolutely no record of a No5 rifle being found at or near the bridge for your information.

First thing all three said was, a tad early for a No5 in September 1944 anywhere near Europe as all were sent to the Far East.
Where did the source come from?

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

The rifles in question shown in post #9 of Gil's are definitely shortened No4's not No5's. They have (admittedly redundant) cut-off blocks visible. The block was never machined on the body of the No5, presumably for the weight saving.

    Roger,
Interesting observation there, and see what you mean, could they be bitsers put together for this purpose from 5's and 4's perchance?

As PL has said they used N04 actions to replace scrapped No5 actions. Is this a later incarnation of these. He also said waste not want not if you have to.

Quite. I'm afraid I'd have no idea when exactly they were 'created'. Anyone else any ideas?
