    Bolt ID

The bolt on my '03, serial # 1374814, has a what appears to be a #6 or #9 on the bottom of the bolt handle. A "US" on the forward side of the safety lug. And an "S" on the bottom of the safety lug. Is this an early bolt or am I reading vishooter's charts wrong.
    Thanks.
    John

Your bolt is indeed an early bolt, but your description of the markings is confusing, to say the least. I am not aware of a "US" marking on the forward side of the safety lug. I suggest that you review the Vi Shooter chart for Rock Island Arsenal 1904-13 and see if you recognize the marking from those listed.

    Stay safe.

Thank you for your insight. The markings are confusing. I took another look with a loop and chalk. Definately looks like a "6" under the bolt handle, "S" under the lug, and a "US" . I can't seam to upload some pictures at this time.
The bolt is in a rifle that I bought in the early '80s and returned to full military configuration after bubba went to town on the stock.

If an S on the safety lug, a pre-WWI bolt body - check the bolt reference charts on the website John suggested.
