7.65x53 Belgian F.N. MOD 89 velocity results and more velocity data.

I recently tested 3 different factory loads 7.65x53 Mauser. Rifle was my 1909 Argentineicon engineer Mauser carbine... One load was 1939 vintage Belgian F.N. model 89 round nose... Very lucky and glad to have found a box...

    A.) F.N. Round nose 1939 MOD 89, 216 grains.
    Velocity in F.P.S -1937, 1925, 1898, 1959. Shot 5 was an error. Standard deviation 22.01. Average velocity - 1929 F.P.S. Foot pounds of energy at muzzle - 1785.

    B.) Prvi partizan 174 grain FMJ. Velocity in F.P.S. - 2587, 2573, 2592, 2611, 2622. Standard deviation - 17.44. Average velocity- 2597 F.P.S. foot pounds of energy at muzzle - 2606.

    C.) Graf and sons 150 grain Hornady soft point. Velocity in F.P.S - 2788, 2801, 2804, 2798, 2812. Standard deviation - 8.13. Average velocity - 2800 F.P.S. Foot pounds of energy at muzzle - 2611.

Notes ... Both the FN MOD 89 round nose & Graf and sons have a bullet diameter of .313 Inch... I am really happy with the Graf and sons velocity performance and standard deviation... Would be excellent hunting ammo, it's very consistent and is top notch IMO...proper bullet diameter too... Graf is using Hornady bullets and prvi cases BTW... and the Graf and sons velocity was exactly 2800 FPS as stated on the box!!! Also, no hangfire from the vintage FN round nose... Wish I had more... Would be willing to buy if it's available.
Milsurps I have... bnz 4 K98k (non matching RC.)... Lithgow 1942 SMLE No.1 mk3* (all matching)... dot 1944 K98k (non matching, yugo capture)... 1952 fazakerley No.4 Mk.2 (all matching).... Argentine 1909 mountain carbine (all matching)

have you recovered any of the FN slugs from the back stop?

right now the BIG deal in genuine surplus ammo is 8mm Mauser from Ethiopia and some European country that had it loaded on browning 1919 belts in metal cans.

And someone DID have some 1960s 30-06 from Africa for a bit this year

The Ethiopian ammo sucks, especially in 8mm Mauser. I bought a brick and plenty of double strikes were required. Yugoslaviaicon had it on belts... Didn't try it but the yugo that comes on stripper clips is S.s. ball type, 197 grain at 2450 fps from one of my k98a
