Check you Cabelas for Mosin 91/30s

In upper Pa here I just put one in layaway. Really looks good. Rearsenaled and full of clear oil. Barrel is good and action tight.

Will take me awhile to understand all the markings but I think it was redone in Rumania.

Out the door price is $129.95 plus tax.

Wow, Cabellas is making 100% profit on those

Before you shoot it, here are some things to look for
Unstock it and make sure the inletting is correct, I have had some that were hammered into the stock. Its not bad until the third or fourth shot splits it at the wrist.
Headspace seems to run tight on them (or at least most that I have run through), if you have to do more than expected slapping and mashing of the bolt handle to get it open after you have run throught 5 or 10 rounds - its going to be too tight.

Buy for the price you can actually go through a couple to get a good one and not be too far down money wise.

Oh, for some reason the 91/30's shoot good but the M44 is a bigtime shoulder pounder, ouch! (but puts out a really cool fireball).

    91/30 and M44

I have two M44's, they are a hoot to shoot however the bolts can be a real bear and stick. I have also found this to the case with the 91/30. After looking into it I found that the breach just forward of the bolt had cosmolineicon inpregnated into the barrel, fire a shot, it heats up and the spent case sticks real bad. I had to use a rubber mallet to get mine unstuck. I took my rifle apart and put the receiver in a vise, I ran a .50 bore brush with a lot of gun oil on it back and forth with a drill for a about a minute then drenched it in carborator cleaner to flush it out. That fixed it, no more sticking. Not very technical and I would not recommend it for a high value rifle. But it fixed the sticking problem.

Thanks. I usually don't buy from Cabellas until they put the item on sale. I saw some 91/30s for sale in Shotgun News for about half of what I paid. Of course, you don't see what you are buying. Cabela's has a one year guarantee on the rifle.

I will check it before I purchase it and look for the items mentioned. One reason I bought it was that it has a brass end cap on both sides of the hand guard. To me that was unusual...
