Some where between the C and N of Contact is when the **** usually hits the fan. The amount of **** and the speed of the fan vary, but the initial pucker factor and rush of Adrenalin is about the same.

I have some tactics manuals dating back to WWII, will check them, but I have a recollection of Contact Drills back in the late '50's in Cadets.
A blokes gotta be a right proper Richard , currently reading a WW2 unit history called Target Tank, the alarm sounded by the gunners was CONTACT-Tank and direction.
The Navy as early as WW1 used CONTACT and bearing to identify enemy ships.
