    Some Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Bayonets

I have never considered myself a bayonet collector, but find a growing number squirreled away. Some of you will know how that happens - you buy a gun that comes with a bayonet, you like it, then you find you "need" to complete the collection.

So it has been with Swissicon bayonets. I love the Schmidt-Rubin firearms for their workmanship, and the bayonets that were issued to those guns are every bit as well made, and are IMO among the most beautiful ever issued. The other nice thing about collecting Swiss fireams and bayonets is that it is conceivable that you could accumulate a complete collection - not something you can say for Mausers.

Pictured below are four of my bayonets that cover the transition from M1889 to K31 - a period of about 75 years. Enjoy.

    L to R - M1889, M1889/18 (aka M1889/96, M1889/99), M1899 (aka M1889/11, M1911), and M1918

They really remind me of M91 carcano bayonets, Finn M35 bayonets and South American Mauser bayonets.

I saw a nice Finnishicon bayonet at the monthly gun club meeting, but, the fellow selling it said it was a re-pro. I wouldn't have thought someone would go through all that trouble. SDH

Are those ever some attractive looking pieces I can see why they cost so much.
I have been hankering after a enfield sword bayonet for a while now. I like the art deco K98icon bayos as well.

They're not really that expensive. These days you usually pay at most ($Cdn):

    M1889 - $150
    M1889/18 - $125
    M1899 - $100
    M1918 - $100

Remember to collect the sawback Pioneer bayonets as well. Then there is the value for money Sig57. Onwards. The collection is NEVER finished. Like the Mrs " Till death us do part"!

I picked up a 1941 Swissicon Army entrenching tool, with cover. £15.00 from another collector. Generally speaking Swiss Army gear is very good quality and good value. As mentioned above several major bayonet manufacturers copied the Swiss method of fixing. In the late 1800s many bayonets were still socket fixing.
