Late winchesters;bayo bands + adj. sights

What specific serial numbers did the late winchesters start to be issued with:

    1)adjustable rear sights?
    2)type III barrel bands?

Was also wondering if the oval cut, low wood, late winchester stock had that random letter located on the flat in front of the recoil plate?

    Thanks for any information.

    Buford,
I'm sure there wasn't an exact number when you'd start finding Adj rear sights and bayo bands. Winchester started using these parts as they became available.
I have 2 Winchesters near this Transition period.
1 is a 5,573,898 which still has a flip sight and type II band. The 2nd is a 5,811,227 which has a Adj rear sight and also has a type II band. I've seen Winchesters between these that appear to be original with type III bayo bands and Adj rear sights.
I also have Type III Lo-wood Winchester stocks with and without the letter or number stamped in them.

    5,573 on top......5,811 on bottom..........

    Thank you Charlie,

Those numbers do narrow it down as much as I was hoping. I currently have two older springtube winchesters, one from the CMPicon. I'm now hoping to get a late one. Hopefully late enough to have, as original, adjustable sight and bayo lug. Really just hoping for good metal because I got lucky on Gun Broker with a stock purchase recently.

The seller just had one poor picture and the stock looked abnormally light colored.(bad lighting) He claimed no marks in slingwell. On a whim, I asked for more pictures. Sure enough, "w" in slingwell, flat bottom winchester type III stock with one of the best REAL cartouches I've seen. The stock is quite dirty with dust and some spots of cosmo/grease. I'll post before and after pictures when cleaned up.

Anyways, this stock does not have the number/letter stamped in it, thats why I asked. Was hoping you would answer. Saw that previous thread you gave all that winchester stock info in and tried to glean a little more out of you here. Thanks!

    Thank You,
The 5,5 was my Fathers. Snuck home in an Australians duffel bag for a couple cartons of smokes. Dad seen the US GI's gear was being checked before getting off the ship, but the Australians and Canadians with them were passing straight thru without being checked. It also cost him drinks at the local watering hole. He said it cost him every dime he had to pay the tab. He was in the Phillipines with an Engineers unit. He mainly carried his sidearm and kept his carbine in his locker. I've had it since I was about 14 or 15.
I was told never to shoot it, and I haven't. I will when Dad passes on. Didn't know much about it until he came down with Alzheimers and dug it out one day while reminiscing. That's how I met the gang on Joustericon to see what I had.
We had another one at that time that had a boxed SG and a Crossed Cannon. It had a RIA over EB stamp I asked about. My *** still burns from asking if stocks were restamped after rebuilding. I was called a humper, gun faker etc...I didn't know better at the time. Many here might remember that. They beat me worse than SETH!!

The 5,8 I bought from a Pastor near Flint, Michigan. It belonged to his Father who also served in the PTO at about the same time as my Father. He had never fired it since his Fathers passing. The barrel was full of packing grease. He's the one that gave me some extra parts he thought went with it. I sat amazed as he kept pulling extras out of his safe. He threw in a extra stock, which was a Inland Type II. about a dozen mags....both 15 and 30rd. About 1/2 were in the wrap. a couple of extra handguards, aprox 280 rds of 44 WRA ammo (loose) and as I was leaving found a bayonet and unmarked type II band. I offered to pay extra but he wouldn't take it $$.
I sent his church a donation. Figured it was the least I could do.

    Cheers

    Jim,
That paperweight is a 1911A1. Made by Colt for Argentineicon Army. Model of 1927. It's 1 of 10,000. I'll have better pics of it soon.

Winchester used 4 types of Bayo bands.
Best I can remember Winchester used the 'W' marked ones that were made by White and Winchester. Like White hammers...the W marked White bayo bands had a larger letter. I had a Winchester stamped "W" bayo band but sold it and screwed the picture up I had of it trying to increase the size of it.
They also used 2 types of the C marked bayo bands made by Cowles. Seemed like the only difference with the C marked ones was the positioning of the C stamp itself. Might also have been a C that was a little larger than the other C.

The pictures here show the small "W" stamped Winchester band.
I know there of poor quality,

    Regards
